It is surprising to know that for certain breeds of dogs, there are standards that makes them true blue members of the pack. To cite an example, Mastiffs should have at least the size of 30 inches at the shoulders and for bitches, 27 1/2 inches. Any dog of this breed that is smaller than the set standard are said to be at fault. Their use during the ancient times by armies may account for the standards that are still followed to this day. As early as the 6th century BC, Mastiffs are known to stand beside soldiers in the battlefield. The overall body built of Big Mastiffs Dogs is given more importance rather than its height based on the size of the legs. They should look massive, heavy boned, with a powerful muscle structure. A slab sided dog is one that lacks depth and breadth. Apparently, the standards are followed to strictly keep the reputation of these dogs as having a powerful built.
